WHO IS: Iggy Azalea

This weekend I was asked the question "What is the difference between Iggy Azalea and Ariana Grande, and which one of them is racist" and I honestly didn't know the answer. So let us explore, in our attempt to catch up on the who's-who of pop culture. A quick google search basically gives us our answer. The top 3 hits are about Iggy's demise, a pointless feud with Snoop Dogg, and her post-racism career. Let's see what this mess is about.

So she sang that one song "Im so fancyyyy" that you may remember from 2015. The article I skimmed said everyone liked it, but I think of it more as the kind of song they'd play as the intro to a morning news show like Hoda and Kathy Lee when they were trying to woo the youth demographic.
So people stopped liking her, not for the ridiculous instagram pics like the one above, but for some of the other remarks she'd post on social media. I'm just gonna copy and paste them from a different website bc its sad to re-type these.

“This Asian lady on the plane tried to act like she didn’t understand me. I told her a– b—- u gone know English today cause that’s my seat!”
“Asian women abuse false eyelashes.”
And these:
“B—-es in la be stick skinny. To the bone. White, black, mexican… Okay… So maybe not mexican :s they still got the box body on lock.”
“wondered why my butt felt like it was about to grow 2 legs, flip me off, & walk away. then i remembered i played soccer yesterday w 5 d–e b—-es.”
“Is it wrong that I feel happy to hear southern accents again & not mexican ones? F— it. Iam.”

A lot of the backlash actually came from the LGBT community, and I haven't quite figured out why  yet. But it seems there's a lot of anger about her because she is an Australian girl who is misappropriating black culture - and not respecting it. There's a LOT of tweets she has made in response to that accusation, I can't retype them all here. Check this out. But the idea is that people started to feel like she was a manufactured pop star acting like a rapper. They claim she never writes her own lyrics, can't freestyle and doesn't use her "hip hop voice" when she's talking casually. Basically the whole rap community, and really the whole internet, completely turned on her. Was it justified? I'm having a hard time finding ways to say it wasn't. Sure there's a larger argument here about the evolution of hip hop and a white female rappers role in it, but this blog is not here to get too serious. She basically got a little too big for her britches, got cocky (and pretty undeniably racist) and showed her true colors. And here we are.

Summary: Iggy Azalea
Interesting: I'd say her demise has a little gleam to it
Dating: Honestly who cares
Tay-Tay Girl Posse: Literally no chance
